Deputy FM of Armenia comments on media reports about Karabakh conflict in connection with Lavrov’s visit to Yerevan
Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Karen Nazaryan did not participate in meetings with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov during the latter’s recent visit to Yerevan and he cannot say if the Karabakh conflict settlement subject was raised during the talks. Karen Nazaryan said that at a press conference following the Armenian government session today.
‘Perhaps there was discussion of Karabakh conflict settlement, but I don’t think the interlocutors touched upon that issue,” Nazaryan stressed.
In an article titled ‘Shuttle Diplomacy To Be Involved in Nagorno Karabakh”, Russian daily ‘Kommersant’ wrote yesterday that during the negotiations on a resolution to the Karabakh conflict, the following option is allegedly being discussed: “The Armenians return to Azerbaijan the control over a major portion of the Azerbaijani territories they captured around Karabakh”.
When asked if that option was really discussed, Nazaryan replied: “These issues have been repeatedly addressed, and on various occasions it was also discussed that the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs put forward the respective proposals on a peaceful settlement to the Karabakh conflict, and the matter is about a comprehensive resolution”.
“In this case, discussing one or another element separately is unacceptable to us and the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs,” the deputy foreign minister of Armenia said.
