76-year-old woman who crossed into Azerbaijan returns to Armenia
Lusik Abovyan, a 76-year-old female resident of Koti village of Armenia’s Tavush province who crossed into Azerbaijan a few days ago, has returned to Armenia on November 12 under the auspices of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), Panorama.am learned from ICRC.
Lusik Abovyan was handed over to the Armenian side on a road between the Azerbaijani city of Gazakh and the Armenian city of Ijevan, at the state border. “As a neutral mediator, ICRC acted in accordance with its mandate, in cooperation with the authorities of Armenia and Azerbaijan,” an official of ICRC said adding that Lusik Abovyan told ICRC employees that she was returning to the homeland voluntarily. Lusik Abovan, 76, crossed the state border and found herself in the territory of Azerbaijan on November 8.
