Haykakan Zhamanak: Slump in copper prices to impact Armenian economy
International copper prices continue to fall. Yesterday the price of one kilogram of copper on the London Stock Exchange was $4,785, which was a record low in five years, according to ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily.
Price change dynamics show that this tendency is stable and copper prices are unlikely to rise in the near future, which is bad news for the country, the paper writes.
As a result of the fall in international metal prices, exports of mineral products sharply increase, while export revenues grow quite slowly. The decline in copper prices could result in a fall in currency inflows from exports of concentrates, which will in turn affect the stability of the national currency,” the daily writes.
