ISIS claims responsibility for deadliest attack in Beirut since the civil war
ISIS has claimed responsibility for a double suicide bomb attack which killed at least 43 and wounded more than 239 in Lebanon's capital city, dailymail.co.uk reported.
The terror group's online supporters claimed its militants blew up a motorbike loaded with explosives in southern Beirut, a stronghold of Islamist group Hezbollah which has sent troops to Syria to take on ISIS.
The blasts, which struck near a community centre, bakery and hospital, were the first attack on the Iran based group for more than a year. ISIS's involvement in the attacks has not been independently verified.
Paramedics rushed to treat the wounded after the twin blasts which damaged shopfronts and littered the streets with blood and broken glass.
Lebanese Prime Minister Tammam Salam condemned the attacks as 'unjustifiable' and called for unity against 'plans to create strife' in the country.
Its Interior Minister Nouhad Machnouk said a third suicide bomber was killed by one of the explosions before he could detonate his own bomb.
The bombers struck as Lebanese lawmakers held a legislative sessions for the first time in more than a year.
Lebanon's security forces claimed to have taken down a number of terrorist cells in the country recently and foiled a number of attacks.
