Ahead of constitutional referendum in Armenia, war of ‘opinion leaders’ starts during ‘Yes and No’ reality show
Political engineer Karen Kocharyan – the author of ‘Yes and No’ reality show launched ahead of the constitutional reform referendum in Armenia – has invited the head of ‘Armenian National Congress’ (ANC) parliamentary faction Levon Zurabyan to participate in the program, Karen Kocharyan said this on his Facebook page, also commenting on the statement issued by the joint office of No Front regarding the TV show.
To remind, supporters of the constitutional reform established ‘Yes’ Front made up mostly of members of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), while opponents of the constitutional reform in Armenia set up ‘No’ Front that currently includes two camps. The first is ‘New Armenia’ public salvation front established by opposition Heritage party and opposition civic initiative Founding Parliament. The second camp is ‘No’ movement formed by opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) and People’s Party of Armenia, which already created a joint office for campaigning ahead of the December 6 referendum.
The joint office of No Front accused Yes Front of using administrative resource while conducting a campaign after Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan also participated in the TV program during the November 14 visit of Aparan city by ‘Yes and No’ reality show participants. According to a statement, the joint office of No Front believes that the participation of PM in ‘Yes and No’ TV program violated the principle of equality in conducting the campaign.
“I want to thank all those who watches ‘Yes and No’ reality show and makes comments. This will allow us to reveal and rule out situations that could cause misunderstandings,” K. Kocharyan wrote.
“Prime Minister Abrahamyan was on the air of ‘Yes and No’ reality show for 18 minutes. I officially invite the chief of No front’s joint campaign office Levon Zurabyan to participate for an hour with Yes and No teams today, on November 17, in the reality show in a city in the north of Armenia and towards the evening to discuss the constitutional reform in Armenia over a cup of tea. If it is impossible today, the same can be done on November 19 as November 18 is a day off for our participants. We await a reply from L. Zurabyan about our proposal and we will be grateful for accepting it,” K. Kocharyan wrote.
The reality show is broadcast by Armnews TV Channel 12 hours a day and can also be viewed at the website of A1+. 16 political and public figures travel to Armenian regions during the reality show. Two groups were formed, each consisting of 4 participants supporting and 4 opposing the constitutional reform. One team will be visiting northern regions of Armenia, the other will go to southern provinces. Their meetings with local residents will be broadcast live on November 13 – December 2 from 11 am to 11 pm.
