Armenian FM, US State Department official emphasize danger of attempts to change Karabakh talks format
There has been progress in Armenia-US partnership relations thanks to joint efforts in recent years, which creates ample opportunities for the further strengthening and expansion of cooperation, Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandyan said at a meeting with U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia Bridget Brink who is on a visit to Yerevan, according to the press service of Armenian Foreign Ministry.
Bridget Brink said for her part that the United States appreciates partnership relations with Armenia and is interested in deepening those relations so it intends to take efficient steps in that direction.
The interlocutors discussed the development prospects of Armenian-American economic cooperation and exchanged opinions about the results of the first meeting of the US-Armenia Council on Trade and Investment that started in Yerevan on November 17.
In this connection Bridget Brink said she takes pride in the fact that the U.S. is one of the largest investors in terms of foreign direct investment in Armenia. She added that she hopes that meetings of the US-Armenia Joint Economic Task Force and the US-Armenia Council on Trade and Investment held this week will help identify ways to raise investor confidence in Armenia.
The sides also exchanged views on the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict, noting the inadmissibility of ceasefire violations. They said that attempts to change the format of Karabakh conflict settlement talks could be dangerous.
Bridget Brink commended Armenia’s contribution to the efforts to promote global security and the country’s participation in peacekeeping missions in other countries.
The interlocutors also discussed a number of regional and international issues.
