LED lightening system and tree-planting of unique environmental importance in Urtsadzor
Continuing the cooperation for the benefit of community development and environmental protection, Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC), its General Partner VivaCell-MTS, as well as the employees of the two organizations carried out a series of programs in Urtsadzor community. During the program the employees of both organizations implemented a LED lightening works and tree-planting of unique environmental importance in the community, the press service of VivaCell-MTS reported.
The event was attended by the General Manager of VivaCell-MTS Ralph Yirikian, the Founder of FPWC Ruben Khachatryan, employees of the two organizations, head of Urtsadzor community Rafik Andreasyan and community members.
The 50 environmentally friendly energy saving LED bulbs donated to the community will be used to illuminate about 2 km-long area. The program has already been implemented for about 2 km-long outdoor illumination by LED lights, which reduced the community’s outdoor lighting costs for up to 60%. Within the project about 3150 square meters of territory has already been planted with 670 young trees of rowans, apple, pear, almond, cherry and poplar trees, using modern technologies.
The forestation activities of the area began in 2012. These activities gained new momentum in the autumn of 2015 by testing innovative technologies of planting. In particular, the application of hydrogel in consistence of soil conditioner enables water retention in a volume that exceeds its preliminary size more than 10 times. The unique structure of the conditioner allows providing water to plants gradually, throughout up to 30 days. In addition to the hydrogel, the soil conditioner contains fertilizer and root growth stimulator.
The innovative approach in the irrigation system will be an asset to decrease evaporation level from the soil surface, providing the water directly to the trunk root section of the plant.
The parties emphasize the use of modern technologies in the field of environmental protection. This project will add to the long-term cooperation between the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS in similar programs.
“We live in the era of advancing technologies and we should exploit the good opportunities they offer for community development purposes. Moreover, modern technologies can be put to use for the solution of environmental issues. This joint program is aimed at reducing the negative effect of weather conditions on the prosperity of village communities without harming the nature. Energy-efficient lamps and water gathering trees will also help to reduce the expenses of the Urtsadzor community,” VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian said.
In acknowledgement of unprecedented support in environmental protection initiatives in Armenia, including "SunChild" international environmental festival, VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian was awarded the honorary title of «Knight of Environmental Protection» by the Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets.
