Government exempts residents of Armenian rural areas hit by hail from payment of 339 million drams
By a decision of the Armenian government, the obligations of about 5,380 farms in 49 rural communities of Shirak and Lori provinces under a program of breeding wheat varieties have been revoked due to damage done by hail in 2014-2015.
Agriculture Minister Sergo Karapetyan said that farmers’ obligations to pay almost 339 million drams have been cancelled as 90% of winter wheat crops were damaged.
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said for his part that this move of the government is aimed at supporting residents of rural areas whose farms were hit by hailstorms.
“Almost 90% of crops were lost, and I believe that it is yet another step of the government to support the agricultural sector and farmers,” the premier said.
