Mikael Melkumyan says when reforms in Armenia will be successful
Reforms in Armenia will be successful in case they gain people’ support, MP of the opposition faction “Prosperous Armenia:” Mikael Melkumyan said today during the campaign in the run-up to the December 6 referendum on the constitutional reform in Armenia as a group of MPs were campaigning in Spitak city of Armenia’s Lori province during ‘Yes and No’ reality show.
“If the majority of the population mistrusts the reform, it is unlikely to be a success,” Melkumyan noted.
In his words, it is necessary to ensure that in addition to voicing criticism, the opposition will also participate in the process of state administration, and various mechanisms are provided to the opposition to this purpose. For example, the opposition will take part in elections of the prosecutor, the chairman of the Cassation Court, and the head of the Central Bank of Armenia.
“This is done so that the opposition will not be alienated. Is it a bad thing?” Melkumyan said.
‘Yes and No’ joint television project of Armnews and A1+ Companies was launched on November 13. The reality show is broadcast by Armnews TV Channel 12 hours a day and can also be viewed at the website of A1+. 16 political and public figures travel to Armenian regions during the reality show. Two groups were formed, each consisting of 4 participants supporting and 4 opposing the constitutional reform. One team will be visiting northern regions of Armenia, the other will go to southern provinces. Their meetings with local residents will be broadcast live on November 13 – December 2 from 11 am to 11 pm.
