Expert: Draft report on Sarsang reservoir approved by PACE Committee is result of Armenian delegation’s inactivity
Approval of the draft report on the Sarsang reservoir in Nagorno Karabakh by the PACE Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development is a result of inactivity of the Armenian delegation, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said at a press conference today.
In his words, the Armenian side should use Sarsang reservoir as a tool of exerting pressure on Azerbaijan.
“In reality Azerbaijani lands remain unirrigated. But they can calmly be left without irrigation water. On the other hand, it is the consequence of an inadequate reaction of our delegation in PACE to challenges to the two Armenian republics,” the expert said.
On November 23 Milica Makovic’s draft report on the Sarsang reservoir in Nagorno Karabakh was approved at the meeting of the PACE Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development. The report controversially called “The Intentional Deprivation of Access of Residents of Azerbaijani Border Territories to Drinking Water” was approved despite the fact that Milica Markovic never visited the Sarsang reservoir in Karabakh, although the authorities of Nagorno Karabakh Republic expressed a readiness to cooperate, ”regardless of serious observations and reservations about the report and the process of its preparation”.
