Draft law on probation service to be put into circulation in early December Deputy minister
The draft law on probation and the state probation service will be put into official circulation in early December, Deputy Justice Minister of Armenia Suren Krmoyan told reporters today during a discussion on the Probation Service.
“We hope that the proposed version will be discussed by late December or the beginning of January, and it will be submitted to the parliament prior to its next session. The matter concerns the legislative package,” he said.
According to Krmoyan, they actively cooperate with the working groups developing the new Criminal Code and the new Code of Criminal Procedure so as to bring the drafts into line with each other.
“We tried to use the draft law for regulating the relations related to execution of alternative sanctions envisaged by the new Code of Criminal Procedure. The problem here concerns the scale of alternative measures of restraint to be executed by the Probation Service. If we are speaking about house arrest and administrative supervision proposed by the new Code, then it should be done by the Probation Service as electronic surveillance will be used in this case. Questions still remain regarding other measures of restraints such as pledge or guarantee,” Krmoyan noted.
