President Sargsyan, prosecutor general discuss upcoming constitutional referendum in Armenia
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today Prosecutor General of Armenia Gevorg Kostanyan who made a report on the competence of Prosecutor’s Office in connection with the upcoming constitutional referendum in Armenia on December 6, according to the presidential press service.
The prosecutor informed the president that a working group was set up in Prosecutor’s Office for a proper response to any information about illegal interference with Armenian citizens’ voting right and free expression of their will during the campaign before the referendum, the referendum itself, and further processes.
The Armenian president said that in order to ensure an appropriate course of the referendum, the Prosecutor’s Office should promptly react to any illegal interference with citizens’ voting right and exercise efficient control over the exercise of their voting right.
To remind, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan on August 21 sent the draft constitutional amendments to the country’s parliament. The draft was developed by the Special Commission on Constitutional Reforms adjunct to Armenian President. The president set December 6, 2015 as the date for the constitutional referendum. The campaign for the constitutional reform in Armenia began on October 10 and will end at midnight of December 4.
