Criminal group arrested in Yerevan not related to political forces, NSS deputy chief says
The criminal group arrested on November 25 in Yerevan during an operation conducted by the National Security Service of Armenia has no relation to any political force in the country,” Deputy Chief of NSS Mikael Hambartsumyan said at a press conference today when commenting on reports by some media outlets that the criminal group was allegedly connected with one of the Armenian opposition forces.
“At the moment we don’t see any connection with political forces,” he said. According to M. Hambartsumyan, 21 people have been detained.
As was reported, a criminal group that intended to commit grave crimes in Armenia was arrested by NSS on November 25. The Investigative Department of NNS opened a criminal case under the Criminal Code’s Article 223 parts 1 and 2 (creation or leadership of a criminal society) and Article 235 part 3 (illegal purchase, sale, possession and carrying of firearms, ammunition, explosive substances, or explosive devices by an organized group). An investigation is underway.
