Gomq community of Vayots Dzor region becomes tenth community to have been provided with street lighting
The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and VivaCell-MTS presented the outcomes of already the 10th initiative implemented this year in the frames of the joint Alternative Energy Project. A street lighting system with 37 LED lights has been installed in Gomq community of Vayots Dzor region, the press service of VivaCell-MTS reported.
VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian, FPWC Founder Ruben Khachatryan, Head of Gomq community Mkhitar Hovhannisyan and community residents attended the event.
The community is 7 km far from Nakhijevan border and has a population of almost 300. The community is notable for the initiatives of its youth. Due to efforts by various groups a playground and a culture house was built; there’s also a child development center and a women cooperative, involved in greenhouse farming, refrigeration, seeds and seedling production.
The outdoor lighting system has always been one of the main problems of this village since the collapse of the Soviet Union. Owing to the project implemented in Gomq, now an area of 1300 meters, almost 60 % of the village, has been provided with energy-efficient outdoor lighting.
“This is already the tenth community we have visited this year. Social support is the main objective of this project, but the idea behind the implemented initiative is to instill hope and optimism towards the future. More than half of the territory of Gomq has been provided with outdoor lighting. Our efforts have not been in vain, if, lighting the streets of the community, we have also managed to light the fire of optimism in you to at least the half of its amount. Always remember that you are not alone,” VivaCell-MTS General Manager Ralph Yirikian said.
The environmentally friendly and energy efficient LED street lights will reduce energy consumption by 80%. The timeframe for lighting in summer will be 22:00 PM till 01:00 AM, and the winter timeframe is 18:30 PM till 12:00 AM. On holidays, the lighting will be provided all night long. LED lights are energy-efficient, durable and last much longer than regular ones.
The Foundation for the Preservation of Wildlife and Cultural Assets (FPWC) and its General Partner VivaCell-MTS attach great importance to the use of innovative technologies in the environmental protection initiatives that promote nature conservation, energy efficiency, as well as community development.
