Draft constitutional amendments to lead to new political culture in Armenia: oppositionist
The draft amendments to the Constitution of Armenia will lead to a new political culture, member of the opposition ARF-Dashnaktsutyun Party (ARFD) Arthur Yeghiazaryan said while campaigning today ahead of the December 6 constitutional referendum during ‘Yes and No’ reality show in Norashen village of Armenia’s Gegharkunik province.
“No political force in Armenia gathered 50% of the votes and more, but that force becomes a majority? Why does it happen? Thanks to seats of the majority,” Yeghiazaryan said.
He added that the new constitutional reform will lead to a new political culture in Armenia.
Member of ‘Hayazn’ Party, participant of “No’ team Armen Mkrtchayn said for his part that if the draft constitutional amendments are adopted, only one national election will be held.
“We will elect the parliament once, and then it will elect the speaker of the National Assembly, the president, and the prime minister. What does it mean? Today we are moving backward. If the possibility of a choice is reduced by 50%, what progress can one talk about?” he said.
