Ethics committee of Armenian parliament announces decision on scandalous remarks of MP Arakel Movsisyan
The Ethics Committee of the Armenian parliament has announced a decision it made earlier concerning the case of Arakel Movsisyan, aka Shmays, an MP of the faction of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA), Ethics Committee head Vahan Babayan told Panorama.am.
He said that by a unanimous decision of the Committee, Arakel Movsisyan behaved in a way unbecoming of a parliament member, i.e. he violated Article 6.1 of the Rules of Procedure of the National Assembly.
Asked what measures will be taken with respect to A. Movsisyan, Vahan Babayan replied: “It does not fall within the competence of our Committee whose authority is only to take decisions”.
Panorama.am learned in June from the press service of Armenian Prosecutor General that although the Prosecutor’s Office did not get any written application from the head of Helsinki Citizens Assembly Vanadzor Office Arthur Sakunts, it nevertheless was dealing with mass media reports to the effect that Arthur Sakunts filed a complaint to the Prosecutor’s Office against MP Arakel Movsisyan who said he would personally make short work of those insulting the country’s defense minister and his family. The MP’s remarks drew a wide public response and heated discussions in social networks, although he did not name those who voiced insults. Arthur Sakunts also filed an application to the parliament’s Ethics Committee in that connection.
