President Sargsyan calls attempts to link constitutional reform with Karabakh problem fabrications
Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is addressing a question to all those who link the constitutional reform in Armenia with the Karabakh problem. The question is: Does the Constitution of Armenia apply to the Nagorno Karabakh Republic? The Armenian president said this in an interview with Armenian TV channels.
As was reported, on Wednesday evening, December 2, Serzh Sargsyan gave an extensive interview to Armenian television channels. He responded to numerous questions concerning the amendments to the Constitution of Armenia, the necessity and goals of initiating the constitutional reform, the importance of the proposed amendments for the state, the arguments put forward by opponents of the constitutional reform, etc. Reporters also asked the president questions about the special operation recently conducted by law enforcement agencies in Yerevan as well as the preliminary investigation into the criminal case opened by the Investigative Department of Armenia’s National Security Service.
In response to the opinion that amendments are being made to the Constitution so as “to transfer the liberated territories to Azerbaija not by means of a single signature, by a vote held in the parliament”, S. Sargsyan said: “During my state activities I have heard thousands of accusations against me, and some of them had real grounds, while others were unfounded. For that reason, accusations do not surprise me. I just want to ask a simple question: Does our Constitution apply to the NKR? And our liberated territories make part of the NKR, don’t they?” Serzh Sargsyan said adding: “Honestly, I don’t know who expressed that opinion, how a serious man can think of such a thing”.
“This is illogical and unreasonable. Such ideas are expressed by people capable of taking a step of this kind,” the president said. He called linking the constitutional reform with the Karabakh problem a fabrication.
