Karabakh Defense Army repels Azerbaijani infiltration attempt, Armenian soldier killed
Around 4:30 am today, on December 4, Azerbaijani troops made yet another reconnaissance-subversive infiltration attempt in the northeastern (Talysh) direction of the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan, according to the press service of Defense Ministry of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic.
The frontline units of NKR Defense Army promptly foiled an Azerbaijani subversive group’s attempt to advance. The enemy retreated to the previous positions, suffering losses.
Regrettably, a servicemen of the NKR Defense Army - Erik Ediki Grigoryan, 20, has died after he received a gunshot wound in the fighting.
An investigation is underway to reveal the details of the incident. Defense Ministry of the NKR expresses its condolences to the family and friends of Erik Grigoryan.
In addition to the reconnaissance subversive act, Azerbaijan violated the ceasefire about 80 times on the line of contact yesterday, on December 3, and the night of December 4.
During that period Azerbaijani frontline units fired over 650 shots at Armenian positions from small arms of various calibers, 60mm (197 shells) and 82mm mortars (43 shells), RPG-7 (1 shell) and AGS-17 grenade launchers (14 shells), and Turkish-made TR-107 rocket launcher (4 shells).
The Azerbaijani side is now continuing to violate the ceasefire by using mortars and rockets. The frontline units of NKR Defense Army are taking retaliatory actions to halt offensive operations of the enemy.
