Oppositionist cries foul: Police seized tables and chairs of rally participants in Liberty Square of Yerevan
The police seized 4 tables and chairs from the participants of a rally in Yerevan’s Liberty Square and also detained Gagik Yeghiazaryan, a member of the campaign office of a camp of No Front, opposition political figure Andreas Ghukasyan announced during an event staged by opponents of the constitutional reform in Armenia.
On December 1 ‘New Armenia’ Public Salvation Front began an indefinite rally in Liberty Square. “New Armenia’ Front includes Founding Parliament civic initiative, ‘Stand Up, Armenia!’ civic movement, and opposition Heritage Party.
According to A. Ghukasyan, the actions of law enforcers contravene Armenian legislation: the police have no authority to decide how many chairs are needed to conduct a campaign.
“Today is the last day of campaigning so we attach importance to it. We call everyone’s attention to police actions,” Ghukasyan said.
To remind, opponents of the constitutional reform in Armenia set up ‘No” Front that currently includes two camps. The first is ‘New Armenia’ Public Salvation Front. The second camp is ‘No’ movement formed by opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) and People’s Party of Armenia, which already set up a joint office for campaigning ahead of the referendum.
