Armenian police refute rumors of polling station shooting in Yerevan during referendum
The Armenian police refuted reports by several media outlets about a shooting at a polling station in Yerevan during the referendum.
The media outlets reported that shots were allegedly fired at a polling station in Yerevan’s South-Western bloc and that policemen arrested the gunman after arriving at the scene.
“It was established that no such incident happened in the mentioned area or any other polling station of Armenia. The information was not true,” the police said in a statement, urging the media to release only credible information and facts, refrain from spreading misinformation and trying to create artificial tension.
Voting in the national referendum on the constitutional amendments started at 1,997 polling stations across Armenia at 8:00 am on Sunday, December 6. Six international and 18 local observer organizations are observing the referendum. Voting will end at 8:00 pm Yerevan time.
