Criminal case opened against a man voting instead of another person
The regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia opened a criminal case against a man who has voted instead of another person, according to a press statement published on the Committee’s website.
Earlier today a report was communicated to the Committee that a resident of Vayots Dzor marz’s Zaritap village V.Stepanyan allegedly attempted to vote in the 39/39 electoral precinct instead of his brother.
A preliminary investigation in the Vayots Dzor regional investigation department revealed, that around 11am in the morning, December 6, a resident of Zaritap village V.Stepanyan participated in the Constitutional referendum in 39/39 electoral precinct. After some time, around 12:30pm he visited the precinct again in order to vote instead of his brother and cast another ballot.
The alleged irregularity was revealed by the chairperson of the electoral precinct.
Reminding that persons suspected or accused of a crime should be considered not guilty until their guilt is proven in the Court with a sentence that entered into force, the Investigative Committee informed that a criminal case was opened in the framework of Art 153 of Criminal Code, with investigation underway.
