Reserve major of Armenian Defense Ministry detained on high treason charge
On December 4, 2015, an Armenian citizen, 38-year-old reserve major Garik Khachiki Marutyan who resides in Armavir province was detained following intelligence measures taken based on the recently received data, according to the press service of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS).
“While serving as chief intelligence officer for many years in various military units of Armenian Defense Ministry, G. Marutyan established contacts through social networks with Turkey-based Azerbaijani special services, and was paid by those services to pass them information he knew owing to his job, including information containing military secrets,” NSS said in a statement.
A criminal case was opened under Article 299 part 1 (high treason) of Armenia’s Criminal Code.
