Armenian defense minister’s advisor: Latest escalation on border could have been provoked by Turkey
“The mode of action of the Azerbaijani side remains the same: to create regularly flashpoints at various sections of the border with the Armenian states. One has to be realistic: this policy of official Baku will not change so our defense ministry should be prepared for any possible scenario,” David Jamalayn, an advisor to the Armenian defense minister, told Panorama.am.
Defense Ministry of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic said yesterday, on December 9 that for the first time since the signing of the ceasefire, Azerbaijan used a tank to shell the positions of NKR Defense Army in the southern direction of the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan.
According to the minister’s advisor, the latest flare-up could have been provoked by Turkey. David Jamalyan said that maintaining constant tension on the border is a ‘stylistic’ peculiarity of the Aliyev regime.
“The term ‘hybrid warfare’ has been used frequently in the recent period. Azerbaijan is conducting a hybrid war against us, while constant tension on the border is a component of that hybrid war,” he noted.
Jamalyan at the same time considered it unlikely that the tensions could escalate into large-scale military hostilities.
“Seizure of Artsakh’s territory is a complex, impossible task for the Azerbaijani army, even at the current level of being armed. So I don’t believe that tensions could escalate into a war. In this case tension of a new quality is being created because the use of large caliber weapons has become an everyday occurrence, which certainly raises deep concern,” D. Jamalyan said stressing that a powerful response resulting in painful losses should be given to each aggressive action of Azerbaijan.
In his words, the more losses the adversary suffers, the longer the calm situation on the border will last. This approach based on experience of relations with Azerbaijan is not new, according to Jamalyan. “A painful blow is the only way to deter the enemy,” Jamalyan noted.
In his words, the defense ministers of Arnenia and Karabakh and the military commanders of the two republics are unanimous in the following approach: to control the situation on the state borders through active initiatives and bold actions aimed at suppressing the will of the adversary”
“So it is quite natural that Azerbaijan sustained heavy losses recently from our blows. This will continue, three is no alternative,” Jamalyan said in conclusion.
