Opposition of Armenia holds rally on Human Rights Day, urges public to struggle
“We celebrate Human Rights Day in Armenia today, and we will not cease our struggle for those rights even for a moment, we will not take even one step back,” the secretary of Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition parliamentary faction Aram Manukyan said during a rally in Yerevan’s Liberty Square today. The rally is to be followed by a march that ANC traditionally stages on Human Right Day.
This year, ‘New Armenia’ Public Salvation Front made up of members of the opposition Heritage Party and the opposition civic initiative Founding Parliament have joined ANC’s march.
“The only way is a path of struggle. There is only one right in the world – the right that has been earned, and there is only one form of civilization – the one in which the public struggles,” Manukyan declared.
Human Rights Day is celebrated annually across the world on 10 December every year. The date was chosen to honour the United Nations General Assembly's adoption and proclamation, on 10 December 1948, of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the first global enunciation of human rights and one of the first major achievements of the new United Nations.
