Armenian PM: Tensions have increased because of Azerbaijan’s aggressive policy
Because of the aggressive policy of Azerbaijan, no considerable progress has been made in the Karabakh peace talks, moreover, an escalation of tensions was reported, Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said today at the meeting with a 60-member delegation of European Democrat Students (EDS) from nearly 20 countries, according to the press office of the government.
European Democrat Students (EDS) is a pan-European centre-right student and youth political association, and the official student organization of the European People's Party.
The premier said that in addition to its provocative actions, Azerbaijan has begun using large-caliber artillery weapons, with the civilian population of border areas of Armenia and Nagorno Karabakh being under fire.
“Armenia and Karabakh have always supported trust building measures such as strengthening of the ceasefire, withdrawal of snipers, creation of mechanisms for investigation of incidents on the line of contact, while Azerbaijan has consistently opposed those measures, completely ignoring the statements of Presidents of the U.S., Russia and France and the efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs aimed at a peaceful resolution of the conflict. That is why we consistently called on the international community to make targeted, and not unspecific, statements about ceasefire violations,” the PM said.
The head of government also spoke about the December 6 constitutional referendum held in Armenia. He indicated a number of positive changes that will ensure amendments to the Constitution and the country’s transition to the parliamentary system of government.
