Turkey not related to escalation of situation in Karabakh conflict zone: political scientist
Turkey has not been related so far to the escalation of the situation on the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan, political scientist Hrant Melik-Shahnazaryan said at a press conference in Yerevan today.
“Turkey will not resort to that step, considering two factors. Russia-Turkey conflict is going on in neighboring regions where both Russia and Turkey have always tried to have much influence, while the boundaries of such an influence constantly contradicted each other. Russia scored a victory over Turkey in Crimea, and now Turkey is losing in Syria and the Middle East. In particular, some measures taken by Moscow have already deprived Ankara of a number of opportunities,” the expert said.
He added: “Under such conditions this region may become a competition arena where the Russian positions are obviously stronger. Ankara’s goal today is to avoid further losses one way or another. This is the reason Turkey would not compete with Russia”.
“Azerbaijan will obey Turkey and start a war against Armenia if Ankara gives Baku clear guarantees of a victory or achievements without losses. Neither Turkey nor anyone else can give such guarantees to Azerbaijan,” Melik-Shahnazaryan said.
