Vigen Sargsyan: Armenian people continue urging Turkey to recognize Armenian Genocide
Chief of the Armenian Presidential Staff, coordinator of the events commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide Vigen Sargsyan met yesterday, on December 10, with a group of members of European Democrat Students (EDS) association.
EDS members arrived in Armenia on the invitation of the youth wing of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA). This year the youth wing of RPA has joined the student association. The EDS gathering in Yerevan has brought together delegates from about 20 countries.
According to the press service of RPA youth wing, Vigen Sargsyan stressed the importance of the fact that the gathering is held in Yerevan, noting that 2015 is a special year for Armenia which commemorates the Armenian Genocide Centennial. He said the Armenians were massacred inside their historic homeland, lost their property, but they have been able to regain their statehood.
Speaking about Turkey’s policy of the Armenian Genocide denial, Vigen Sargsyan said Ankara thus lays a foundation for new genocides. That is why Adolf Hitler told the army during World War II: “Who, after all, speaks today of the extermination of the Armenians?”
Not only does Turkey continue denying the Armenian Genocide, but it also keeps the border with Armenia closed, V. Sargsyan said.
‘The subject of the Genocide remains topical. We must speak about it,” he noted.
He informed those present about the major programs implemented in 2015 as part of the commemorative events of the Armenian Genocide Centennial in order to tell the world the truth and prevent future crimes.
According to Vigen Sargsyan, the Armenian people continue to call on Turkey to recognize the Armenian Genocide, come to terms with its past, and cease to be an accomplice to the crime committed a hundred years ago.
EDS delegates will visit the Armenian Genocide Museum Institute today.
