Haykakan Zhamanak: Price of Russian gas supplied to Armenia may go up
Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily says that the Armenian government yesterday approved the long-term development program of Armenia’s energy sector. “The document contains an interesting forecast regarding Russian gas supplied to Armenia, As is known, one of the terms of Russia’s membership in WTO is that the sale of energy resources in the domestic market and in any foreign market shall be based on equal profitability. Due to that term, the price of gas imported by Russia should be brought into line with European prices,” the paper writes.
According to the newspaper, it means that in case of meeting the terms of the membership in WTO, the price of Russian gas may increase almost threefold for Armenia.
The current agreement on Russian gas supplies expires in 2018, and there is great likelihood that the forecast mentioned in the strategy may come true.
