Ex-deputy FM of Armenia on reasons why Turkey will not resort to military actions
Russia-Turkey tension will not lead to military hostilities, but the deterioration in relations between the two countries will have serious consequences for the region, ex-Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Arman Navasardyan told a press conference today.
In his words, the crisis in Russian-Turkish relations is also negatively affecting Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, but large-scale military operations in the Karabakh conflict zone should not be expected, and the Azerbaijani side will not cross ‘the red line’.
According to Arman Navasardyan, Turkey will not resort to military actions for a variety of reasons, in particular, because the U.S. and NATO will not encourage it, while Azerbaijan has found itself in a worse situation: it cannot make a single step without permission of Turkey and the U.S., and on the other hand it does not know how to improve ties with Russia.
As regards the possible meeting of the presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Arman Navasardyan and another participant in the press conference, political scientist Shushan Khatlamajyan, said that one should not have serious expectations from the upcoming meeting.
