Man in Armenia’s Vayots Dzor province charged with voting instead of another person in constitutional referendum
A resident of Armenia’s Vayots Dzor province has been charged with voting instead of another person during the December 6 referendum on the constitutional amendments, according to the press service of Armenia’s Investigative Committee.
The incident took place at polling station No 39/39 in Vayots Dzor province.
Investigators established that V. Stepanyan, a resident of Vayots Dzor, voted at polling station No 39/39 around 11:00 am on December 6, 2015, and then went to the same polling station around 12:30 pm and cast a ballot instead of his brother.
The circumstances were revealed by the chairwoman of the precinct commission Karine Abetyan who filed a report to the Vayk police station.
The Vayots Dzor unit of Armenia’s Investigative Committee on the same day opened a criminal case under Article 153 of the Criminal Code – voting more than once or instead of another person.
On December 8, 2015, a release on his own recognizance was chosen as a measure of restraint for V. Stepanyan, and on December 15 he was charged under Article 153 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. He pleaded guilty and gave evidence. An investigation is underway.
