After an unsuccessful attempt of reconnaissance-subversive infiltration by Azerbaijani troops on the night of December 17, as a result of which they had to retreat to the previous positions while suffering heavy losses, a special group of the Azerbaijani army on the night of December 18 resorted again to subversive actions  in the southern, eastern, northeastern and northern directions of the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan, according to the press service of Defense Ministry of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic. 

The frontline units of Defense Army of the NKR promptly foiled the enemy’s attempts to advance in the abovementioned directions and then they launched defensive actions. The Azerbaijani saboteurs retreated to the previous positions, suffering losses.

Unfortunately, two servicemen of the NKR Defense Army – Agahsi Grigoryan, 19, and Ruben Aleksanyan, 19, heroically died in close combat.

Around 9:30 pm yesterday, December 17, a contract serviceman of NKR Defense Army, Gor Ohanyan, 23, died from a gunshot wound under still unclear circumstances on a frontline position of a military unit located in the northern direction of the line of contact. An investigation is underway.

Defense Ministry of the NKR expresses condolences to the families, friends and fellow servicemen of the dead soldiers.

Defense Ministry of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic says that the provocative actions of Azerbaijan will not go without a response. The response will be painful and lead to irrecoverable losses, the Ministry said in a statement.
