MoD spokesman: Extremely tense situation on Armenia-Azerbaijan border, several Azerbaijani subversions foiled
Last night the situation was extremely tense on Armenia-Azerbaijan border, the spokesman for Armenian Defense Ministry Artsrun Hovhannisyan wrote on his Facebook page.
“Artillery weapons and tanks were used. Several subversive actions were foiled,” S. Hovhannisyan wrote, noting that more details will be provided later.
The spokesman also said that Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan early in the morning went on a surprise visit to the Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) Republic. S. Ohanyan will meet with Artsakh’s leadership and the commanders of Defense Army as part of constant cooperation and coordination of actions between Armenian Defense Ministry and Defense Army of the NKR. The current situation on the border will be discussed at the meetings.
Meanwhile, the press service of NKR Defense Ministry reported earlier today that on the night of December 18 Azerbaijani troops took subversive actions at several sections of the line of contact between the armed forces of Karabakh and Azerbaijan. The frontline units of NKR Defense Army carried out defensive measures, as a result of which the enemy was repelled to the previous positions and suffered losses – at least 2 were killed and wounded. A serviceman of NKR Defense Army, Fidar Aloyan, 19, died in defensive action.
