NSS Director Gorik Hakobyan: If ISIS continues to grow, it may pose a direct threat to Armenia’s interests
One important direction in the activities of Armenia’s National Security Service (NSS) in 2015 was the support given to ensure the security of the Armenian community in the Middle East, amid the crisis in Syria, Director of Armenia’s NSS, Colonel-General Gorik Hakobyan said at a festive meeting held on December 18 to mark Day of the National Security Service Employee.
In his words, it has now become impossible to avoid the ongoing bloody developments in the Middle East.
“Although the ongoing events are not directly connected with the Republic of Armenia, the emigration of Syrian Armenians and the continued inflow of refugees, including into Armenia, cause serious reflection. One should understand that if the evil called ‘Islamic State’, which has become a scourge for Syria and Iraq and carried out terror attacks in different countries, reaches North Caucasus, it will pose a direct threat to the interests of our country as well,” G. Hakobyan said.
‘We should be prepared to neutralize the possible threats through cooperation with security agencies of the partner states and joint efforts,” he added.
