Zhamanak: Action of Yerevan City supermarket chain should be considered administrative offence
Yerevan City supermarket chain owned by MP Samvel Aleksanyan provides loans of up to 200,000 drams in return for passports as security. Customers may use this sum of money to make New Year purchases from the same supermarket and they will get their passports back only after payment of the loan. When asked by the correspondent of ‘Zhamanak’ newspaper, how legal such an action is, lawyer Nikolai Baghdasaryan replied that the Armenian law forbids passports from being used as security, which is considered as administrative offence. The police should deal with this case, the lawyer said.
