M. Melkumyan: Efforts of Armenian government to improve economy give no result due to lack of trust
The ongoing economic efforts in Armenia should be supported by political will, MP of the opposition ‘Prosperous Armenia’ faction Mikael Melkumyan said today at a press conference entitled “The Armenian economy amid global challenges: the year’s observations”. “2.2% economic growth has never before been planned, but in 2010 we achieved such a growth rate,” he said.
In his words, the Armenian government’s efforts towards diversification of the economy and granting tax privileges have not yet priduced results since those steps are not combined with measures on restoring trust.
“The referendum on the constitutional reform in Armenia showed that we have a problem with trust restoration. The same is true for business. It is necessary to ensure a high quality of competitive relations, an efficient anti-corruption policy and create a reliable business environment. Economic efforts should be bolstered with political will,” the MP noted.
