R. Amirkhanyan: Opera and Ballet Theatre deviated a bit from its functions
“It is an inadmissible, anti-professional reality. Spendiarian Opera and Ballet Theatre deviated a bit from its functions,” composer Robert Amirkhanyan told reporters.
Structural changes have taken place at Spendiarian Opera and Ballet Theatre. The proposal was put forward by the theatre’s artistic director Gegham Grigoryan. The changes were aimed at improving creativity, the quality of creative work. Karen Durgaryan has been the principal conductor of Speniarian Theatre since 2001. He received an offer to continue working as the conductor. He declined.
“I am waiting to see how the theatre will continue the traditions that have been passed on to us. There are intrigues. It is quite obvious that you are appointed as conductor for two months and then will be replaced by another person. Imagine a ship without a captain,” Amirkhanyan noted.
In his words, Karen Durgaryan is a musician who has great qualities and is able to develop the art of opera, he is a prominent figure in the Armenian culture.
“It is a farce. Not to respect a man. To give him a paper and say that he is dismissed. What are the professional reasons?” he said.
Amirkahnyan considered it unacceptable to invite a foreigner as a conductor, noting that a foreigner is unlikely to care much about problems of our opera art.
