Nikolai Bordyuzha calls for efforts to prevent escalation of Karabakh conflict
It is necessary to prevent an escalation of the Karababkh conflict into large-scale hostilities, which will explode the whole Caucasus, Secretary General of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Nikolai Borduyzha told Russia’s Rossia 24 television channel.
“We are following with great concern the ongoing events in the Caucasus, especially those in connection with the Karabakh conflict, on the line of contact, with heavy weapons and tanks used there and casualties reported. I think the political resource of our states should be used to prevent the situation from being destabilized so that the conflict that has become quite tense now could not escalate into large-scale military actions,” he said.
“Today it is a scary prospect because the whole Caucasus will explode,” Bordyuzha said stressing the need to act using “primarily political methods” and the authority of the heads of state. He also called on CSTO member states to make efforts towards de-escalation of the situation and prevention of violence.
