Sri Lanka President says Enrique Iglesias concert organisers 'should be whipped' after rowdy crowds
Enqrique Iglesias has caused outrage in Sri Lanka as the country's president calls for his concert organisers to be "whipped", the Dailyt Mirror reported.
Maitripala Sirisena has claimed the show in the capital Colombo earlier this week went against the nation's "culture" after female fans threw their underwear at the singer on stage.
The president has called for the concert organisers to be "whipped with toxic stingray tails" after other local women ran on stage and kissed the star.
Speaking at a public meeting in Ampara, he said: "I don't advocate that these uncivilised women who removed their brassieres should be beaten with toxic stingray tails, but those who organised such an event should be."
Police have been known to arrest couples for kissing in public, with displays of affection frowned upon in conservative Sri Lankan society.
The live one hour performance was part of Iglesias' Love And Sex world tour, with tickets costing between 5,000 and 50,000 rupees (£235) for the rugby stadium show.
He may be courting controversy now, but last month he made our hearts melt with an adorable throwback photo in his school uniform.
