Government staff reduction planned in 2016, Armenian PM says
Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan held a reception in the government office today. During the event he responded to the questions of reporters.
“The government is open in work with the mass media. We are prepared to discuss reasonable proposals, and we are also prepared to give explanations regarding well-founded criticism,” he said.
In response to a reporter’s remark about the possibility of achieving economic growth, H. Abrahamyan said that expectations may not come true due to one or another event as a result of the ongoing developments in the region and the world.
“Yet we will achieve growth of 3% or even higher, but this will not solve the problem of comfortable life of the people because we have to ensure two-digit economic growth, while the current circumstances prevent us from doing so. Even if the head of government and ministers are replaced, nothing will change on a large scale,” the PM noted.
In his words, new approaches and demands will be used with respect to the government members in 2016. “We plan to cut expenditures. Measures will also be taken to reduce the government staff,” he said.
As was reported, on December 9 the Armenian parliament approved the 2016 state budget of Armenia. The deficit is planned at 3.5% of GDP. By the state budget, real GDP growth is set at 2.2% in 2016.
