Legislative breakthrough: Non-working mothers in Armenia receive allowances from January 1
Thanks to amendments and additions to the Law on State Benefits, not only working mothers, but also non-working ones will receive allowances from January 1, 2016.
Non-working mothers will receive an allowance for the same period of a maternity leave (140 days) that is established for working mothers by the Labor Code of Armenia. The allowance is paid in a lump-sum. On January 1, 2016, the allowance was set at 126,600 drams, taking into account the minimum wage of 55,000 drams).
By estimates of the Armenian government, allowances will be paid to nearly 30,000 non-working mothers. About 4 billion drams was allocated from the state budget for that purpose.
