Ataturk’s signature was designed by calligrapher of Armenian descent Hakob Vahram Cerciyan
The signature of the founder of the Turkish republic Mustafa Kemal Ataturk was designed by Hakob Vahram Cerciyan, a mathematician and calligrapher of Armenian descent, Ermenihaber.am reported, noting that the pro-government Turkish website YeniAkit published an article discussing in detail this fact that is not frequently mentioned in Turkey.
According to the source, after Mustafa Kemal took up a last name – Ataturk under the Surname Law in 1934 in urkey, Cerciyan, a professor of mathematics, geography, and calligraphy at the Robert College of Istanbul, was proposed to prepare within 24 hours a model signature for Ataturk. Ataturk personally selected the one of "K. Atatürk" from five model signatures designed by Cerciyan.
H. Cerciyan later told in press interviews and during conversations with his pupils that he received a letter of thanks from Ataturk in appreciation of his service.
