It is planned to operate Iran-Armenia gas pipeline at full capacity: RFE/RL
Director of National Iranian Gas Export Company Alireza Kameli said recently that a preliminary agreement was reached with Georgia to export Iranian gas to Georgia via Armenia.
There are plans to export 8-15 million cubic meters of gas daily to Georgia through the territory of Armenia, Kameli said noting that gas will be used to generate electricity in Georgia.
According to Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty Iranian service correspondent Rubik Ghahraman Monasian, Tehran believes that the Iranian-Georgian deal will enable to operate the Armenia-Iran gas pipeline to a greater extent.
“It is envisaged operating Armenia’s gas pipeline at full capacity. In other words, a new pipeline is currently out of the question. In addition to Georgia’s receiving gas, the amount of electricity supplied from Armenia [to Iran] will increase,” Monasian said.
