Health Ministry: Over 850 hospitalized in Armenia with acute respiratory infections; 170 confirmed swine flu cases
In Armenia the situation with flu and acute respiratory infections raises no concern, Deputy Health Minister of Armenia Vahan Poghosyan said at a press conference today. He urged the mass media not to spread panic.
In his words, there is no epidemic of flu, acute respiratory infections, and pneumonia in Armenia. There is a seasonal rise in diseases due to the cold weather and more contacts during the New Year holidays.
He assured those present that monitoring is conducted every day, with all the patients being under constant supervision.
The head of National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of Health Ministry Artavazd Vanyan presented statistical data: 855 people are now receiving inpatient treatment in Armenian medical centers after being diagnosed with acute respiratory infection, 170 of them are patients with confirmed H1N1 swine flu.
77 patients are in ICUs, 11 of them are placed on a ventilator. He explained that 4 of those 11 people have swine flu. 101 pregnant women have been hospitalized, 37 of them with pneumonia.
