Armenia’s borders should be defended with Russian arms, Lernik Aleksanyan - an MP of the parliamentary faction of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) – said at a press conference today.
He in particular said that Armenia today is virtually in a state of war so it is hard to imagine the protection of the borders without defense and Russian weapons.
To remind, the Russian 102nd military base is located in Gyumri, Armenia, as part of the Joint CIS Air Defense System. On August 20, 2019 Russia and Armenia extended the term of the Russian military base’s deployment in Armenia until 2044. The protocol also provides for an extension of its geographical and strategic responsibility zone. The base has S-300 air defense missiles and MiG-29 fighter jets.
