Government to continue subsidizing raised power tariff: Energy minister of Armenia
The Armenian government will continue subsidizing the increased electricity tariff, Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan said during a briefing today, after the government session.
‘There are no disagreements. Subsidizing of the power tariffs will continue in order established by the Armenian government. I state with all responsibility that subsidies set by the government will be paid in the future as well,” Zakharyan said.
New higher electricity tariffs took effect in Armenia on August 1, 2015. The government decided to pay subsidies from extra-budgetary resources since August 1, 2015. Subsidies of 6.93 drams per KWh are paid to households (for the whole amount of electricity consumed monthly) and to small and medium sized enterprises consuming up to 500 KWh a month. The SMEs are subsidized for 250 KWh of electricity a month.
