Health Ministry: Another two deaths from swine flu reported in Armenia on weekend
Another two deaths due to the H1N1 (swine flu) virus were reported in Armenia over the weekend, despite doctor’s consistent efforts in the past nine days to save the lives of two patients in intensive care, the press service of Armenian Health Ministry said noting that both patients sought medical aid only on January 9 after they fell ill with pneumonia and were in grave condition.
Both patients were immediately placed on a ventilator, one of them also suffered from cardiopulmonary insufficiency.
As of January 18, seven patients with pneumonia are in grave condition and remain on ventilator. Doctors are struggling to save their lives.
“Numerous consultations involving leading experts have been held in the country in recent days. Unfortunately, it is not always that good results have been reached,” the ministry said in a statement.
450-500 deaths due to pneumonia are reported annually in Armenia in 2009-2014, most of them were related to the winter seasonal flu, the ministry said.
More patients have immediately sough medical care in the past few days thank to increased awareness of the population, Health Ministry of Armenia said.
