Turkish media outlet on corrupt cooperation of Baku and Ankara over PACE draft resolutions
Democrathaber.net, a Turkish pro-opposition website, has discussed the topic of corrupt cooperation between Turkey and Azerbaijan on the draft resolutions introduced in the PACE.
It is noted in the article “Bribery rumors circulate in the PACE lobby regarding the Karabakh problem draft” available at the website that two draft resolutions will be put to vote at the winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) that starts on January 26.
According to the article, independent international experts call attention to the circumstance that the draft resolution was introduced by British MP Robert Walter and Spanish MP Pedro Agramunt who will preside over the PACE’s winter session, and both are criticized for their partiality.
The source says that Ankara that supports Baku in the Karabakh problem granted the abovementioned MP Turkish citizenship in May of last year, Turkish FM Mevlut Cavusoglu personally handed a Turkish passport to R. Walter.
“That is why opinions are expressed that the draft resolution is the result of a secret arrangement,” Democrathaber says, adding that with only a few days left until the start of the PACE session, rumors are circulating in the lobby in Strasbourg that Walter will soon serve as an advisor with Turkish Foreign ministry.
The Turkish media outlet says it is also no accident that the draft resolution has been put on the agenda during Pedro Agramunt’s presidency. In his reports on political prisoners, Agramunt has always avoided expressing views contradicting Baku authorities and the Aliyev regime, due to which he attracted sharp criticism of Human Rights Watch and European Stability Initiative.
