Energy minister of Armenia: Russian gas tariff change talks underway
The Armenian authorities submitted an application to Russia about a cut in the tariffs of Russian gas supplied to Armenia, and the negotiations are underway, Armenian Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Yervand Zakharyan told reporters today.
In connection with other rumors, the minister said that they are unfounded and no final decision has been reached.
As was reported, on January 16 Armenian Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan said during a meeting with businessmen engaged in production and export of foodstuffs and household goods: “We applied to the Russian authorities regarding the prices of energy resources, and given the strategic nature of our partnership with Russia, we count on a positive solution of the issue”.
In response to a question about Armenia’s expectations, Yervand Zakharyan said today: “I still find it hard to speak about expectations. We will try to do everything possible so that the tariff could be revised”.
In his words, Armenia realizes the importance of the issue, and for that reason the country’s authorities asked Russia to consider reducing the tariffs of gas supplied to Armenia.
