Haykakan Zhamanak: Large quantities of Turkish tomatoes exported to Armenia
Large quantities of tomatoes have been exported from Turkey to Armenia since December of last year, ‘Haykakan Zhamanak’ daily writes noting that it received this information from owners of small greenhouses who are sure that no documents were drawn up at the border when those tomatoes were imported.
“It was mentioned that imports of Turkish tomatoes are gradually increasing. Following Russian sanctions on Turkey, cheap vegetables from that country are sold in various markets, including South Caucasian ones. Low prices of Turkish tomatoes make them competitive on other markets. There are no legal barriers to the import of Turkish tomatoes to Armenia, but Turkish tomatoes were not imported in recent years under an agreement reached by businessmen. If information of greenhouses’ owners is true, it means that some violated that agreement,” the paper says.
