President of PACE: Armenia and Azerbaijan should find a peaceful resolution
The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) started in Strasbourg today. The winter session will be held on January 25-29.
Prior to the start of the session, PACE President Anne Brasseur - whose term ends today – gave a press conference and responded to the questions of reporters.
The correspondent of Panorama.am asked Ann Brasseur a question about the two anti-Armenian draft resolutions on Nagorno Karabakh included in the agenda, reminding her of a statement by the OSCE Minsk Group Co-chairs urging PACE to refrain from steps that could undermine the OSCE Minsk Group’s mandate or complicate ongoing negotiations. When asked about her opinion about those reports, Ann Brasseur replied that discussions have not yet taken place, there is no decision, and she would not like to intervene. Ann Brasseur added that Armenia and Azerbaijan as Council of Europe member states should find a solution so that people will live in peace. In her words, hard work should be done to ensure this as people are suffering in the region. These people are citizens of the Council of Europe, their rights need to be protected, and a solution should be found. My personal opinion is that we should not let the situation remain as it is, A. Brasseur said.
